Padded shorts can't do all the work!

Stacie finally got to try her hand at the bike tonight. It's nice that she will get one bike ride in before the tri and still beat me. That's what happens when you have the legs of a 6 yr old girl, no power! (Yet I still have thunder thighs.) So in true procrastinator us fashion, (example: waiting until a week before the event to train for it) we snapped a photo...

and took off on the route I had planned out without actually telling Stacie anything about riding the bike, like the pedals or you know, shifting. It became a very learn on the road event. I was in front, yelling back to her on Coach's bike about how my bike worked, and his should be similar. Turns out there are differences, but ya know, she's smart, she figured some of them out. Most of the ride was great and fairly easy, till we hit the straight stretch right into the wind. Fun! We spent the rest of the ride trying really hard not to stop because Stacie had finally gotten both feet in the clips and she didn't know if that could happen again. This meant running a few red lights and dodging some semis, and we still didn't make it, but bonus, she didn't fall over! What was supposed to be an 11 mile ride, turned out to be a 13.5 mile ride because SOMEONE (eh-hem, me) forgot one of the turns. Oops. Extra workout and calories burned I guess. Unfortunately, it put us back later than expected and Stacie missed the end of her daughters soccer game and I felt/feel really bad! Sorry Stace! Had fun though. Now it is time for a day off to let my sciatic heal. The swimming really killed it and I can't take a step without a sharp pain in my left back dimple. This could be one interesting tri, aka I am really nervous! Enjoy our silly after photos!

What is the event you were the most nervous for and how did you help calm yourself? I could really use the advice!

Awesome poses! hahaha. I get nervous for every race whether it be a tri or a 5k. I just really try to forget about the other people racing and remind myself that I'm racing only for me, not them. Don't know if that'll help...

Next time action shots from the bikes! ;-)

Most nervous? Every marathon. But most recently, my first ultra. I keep thinking what am I doing out here with all these runners?

How did I calm myself? I reminded myself that 1) I had done the work 2) I had set sensible goals 3) I was only racing myself 4) they were all just people who loved to run in the woods too.

Enjoy your tri.

Nice work. Unfortunately I have no advice for a TRI. It scares the dickens out of me...especially the bike. You are a brave woman!! Good luck!!! You'll rock it.
